Why isnt my computer detecting my digital camera?

Once you've connected your camera to your computer or inserted your memory card into your memory card reader, Windows XP will detect the connection and ask you what you want to do with your pictures. If you connected your camera with a USB cable, click Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard

the camera is switched on but the EOS10D ..Device connected box isnt opening to say its found the camera........any idea why?
there is a "safetly Remove Hardware" icon appearing on the taskbar which when clicked is displaying a

usb storage device.drive F

any advice please?

Reboot your pc and try again.

chances are you have a network drive or cd rom drive mapped to F already.

Right Click on My Computer, and select Manage. (you'll need a local administrator account) to do this.
Open Disk Management
Find your camera and select "change drive letter"
select an unused drive. (You will get a message about programs not running correctly from a different drive) This is OK.

When you finish this process, the drive should pop-up, and ask what you would like to do with it.

A lot of card readers will work without the need of drivers. However many EOS cameras that I have come accross will need you to install the drivers that came on one of the CDs. I don't know why it's the case but everytime it doesn't work properly installing drivers has solved the problem.
