I set my Nikon D60 to shoot RAW but am wondering why pictures still import as Jpegs? Is that normal?

Should RAW photos say ".raw" instead of ".jpeg" when they import or have I not set my camera to RAW correctly? Thanks!

I know for a fact they shouldnt say .jpeg after.

They should say .NEF for your D60.

.NEF is the RAW file name for Nikon. The only time I can recall that a camera lists a file type like this incorrectly is if the RAW/camera conversion software hasn't been loaded. Otherwise why would your computer know what a .NEF file was?

Is there any chance you are really shooting in RAW+Jpeg mode, and your computer is only 'seeing' the jpeg files? Can you open the photo without any kind of special viewer? Can you right click the image and see jpeg properties? If so, they are probably not RAW shots. Your camera's LCD should clearly show what kind of format you are shooting in, that goes for all brands.

Get out of AUTO mode, that will usually prevent you from shooting in RAW. And finally, it's time to get into the manual of your camera. If you don't have it, search for it online.
