Why doesn't my camera take good quality photos?

I bought a new Hitachi HDC-1098EP 10 mega pixel camera to replace my 5 year old HP 5 mega pixel one. No matter what setting i use , anti-shake, macro , portrait the quality of the photo isn't as good as my old camera and seems faded and not as focused.

Any advice on how to take better quality pictures would be helpful.

You have been fooled by the megapixel game. Mega pixels only state the size of the image, not the quality. Other variables include lens quality, body quality, software quality, feel, brand, and the overall opinion of it's buyers.

When you buy a camera a good thing to do is search what others that have bought think about it.

Try cleaning the lens with lens solution and a cleaning cloth. Lighting is important and from the sounds of it, you might want to consider using a tripod. Even if you are shooting outdoors, use your flash. You'll be surprised at the difference
