Yes, for the 50D you go to the top right of the camera where it says AF-DRIVE and select one of the last 2 options using the back wheel.

In any mode you need to press the joystick button straight down to access the shooting mode options.

Then, using the joystick, go to the bottom right box and then press the joystick straight down again to access another menu.

Then using the wheel turn either left or right to choose what shooting type you want to need.
