Digital camera doesnt pull up on the computer when i connect it?

it only pulls up once in a while, idk why that happens. it shows the Digital Camera connected on my computer but it wont let me open it. it says cant get pictures bc camera is being used. why is that? is there anything i can do
i tried the reader a couple of weeks ago but it wouldnt pull up. idk why.

sometimes it works when i turn it on after its hooked up, and others it doesnt.

thanks for the help though.

in my experience the camera maker software never works very well. However, a solution.
try a card reader. no cable, no software, no hassle.

Don't turn the camera on until after it's plugged in. Then you may have to change the format on the popup screen from one that makes sense to one that doesn't make sense. Try windows 7, it takes my camera a lot better.

Buy a cheap card reader (about $10) and plug the card in, then connect to the USB slot. It comes up as a USB or removable drive. open like any other drive and move the files.
