Is a 32-96mm lens good; I just bought a Kodak C182?

Best Answer

Honest answer? No.

That'll give you 3x optical zoom.

32mm isn't really wide, and 96mm isn't really zoom.

Those are 35mm equivalents so I guess it's pretty average. Back in the film days, the standard zooms are 35-75mm or 28-80mm.

Good for what? You can do lots of stuff, and a lens can be good or bad in many areas.

Sharpness? Well, it's a cheap camera, it may be decent, but don't expect a lot.
Zoom range? As said above, rather average, good for most uses.

It's not how the zoom on the lens that matters. To be honest fixed focal length lenses are miles better optically. The maximum aperture also determines the usefulness of a lens, an f2 lens is going to be much more useful than an f8 lens. Finally what has been used to make the lens is important, and better lenses use ground aspherical elements, special coatings, and special materials to make low dispersion glass.

In terms of 32-96 it's well a standard range. Nothing to shout home about, will serve most of your every day needs. Not really wide enough for landscapes, and not really long enough for anything more than a portrait kinda length.
