Canon are the worlds largest camera manufacturer, with Nikon (who are heavily dependent on Sony components) running a very close second.
Sony oddly though are the worlds largest manufacturer of sensors for still cameras and also of image processing chips.
Hasselblad make the highest resolution commercial still cameras, but based on sensors sourced from of all people Kodak!
Want me to go on?
There are different levels of cameras, so based on that, here we go:
(*NOTE-Listing
Medium Format (film and digital): Hassleblad or Phase One
Digital cameras, DSLRs (no point & shoots):
Nikon, Canon, Pentax <<---- the better 3 at the moment (order here is no indication of rank)
Panasonic, Samsung, Sony, Olympus <<-- on the rise, contenders
Sigma, some excellent lenses but I think lagging on the camera front. Some really bad delays in coming out with new product and needs to be more competitive on prices.
Some links below that may be of interest.
My 2 cents.
Mark
