What is a good SLR camera?

im looking for a good SLR Camera at least 10 mega pixel and can spend about £370. preferably one with a viewfinder. im only going to be using it for taking general photographs but need them to be of a high quality. Thanks:)

I would look at both Nikon and Canon, but the ultimate choice is up to you. You need to decide what features you need, which camera feels better in your hand, which company carries the lenses you may need down the road, etc.

NIKON:
- Nikon D3000: [URL Truncated]

CANON:
- Digital Rebel XS: [URL Truncated]

I would recommend Nikon D3000
10.2M Nikon DX format CCD sensor
3 inch hi-res LCD monitor
New Guide Mode for easy operation and enhanced picture taking skills
11-point autofocus system for tack sharp results
Active D-lighting for shooting in high contrast conditions

There are a number of good brands so don't be sold on the idea one brand is better than another. I would keep your costs down. I would get a DSLR with a short zoom (like a 18-55mm) to start. No reason to spend more than $425 to $550. Either a 10MP or 12MP (MP means mega pixel) will do just fine.

Below, I listed some links the first one being to a web page that is a side by side listing of the cameras I listed below. This web page has links to camera reviews to 3 of the 4 cameras and these reviews include sample images from the cameras.

Here are some models that I think are well worth researching:
(you will need to convert from US dollars)
Sony Alpha A230 Digital SLR 10 MP with 18-55mm Lens - $429US
Nikon D3000 10MP DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens - $490US
EOS Rebel XS 10MP DSLR Digital Camera Kit (Black) with 18-55mm IS Lens - $449US
Pentax K-x 12MP DSLR with 18-55mm Zoom (has HD Video also) - $550US

Hope this helps. Pick a price range, some features you know you want, and even consider which camera feels good in your hand as a factor. Plenty of great cameras, get one you like and start learning the principles of photography and you will be on your way to making some great images. If you have any questions and if you think I can be of help then please do contact me.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
